Motor vehicle services should be done in person. If the individual(s) can not apply in person a letter of authorization must be provided to an individual acting on their behalf with accurate and with proper documents. >
1. What documents do I need to provide to register my vehicles?
- To register a vehicle, you will require proof of ownership (bill of sale, lease agreement), proof of valid insurance and identification. If the vehicle is new, you will also require a new vehicle information statement (NVIS); if the vehicle was imported into Canada , you will require a Vehicle Import Form from Transport Canada. Used Vehicles previously registered outside of the province require a safety inspection.

2. What do I need to renew my vehicles?
- The Government sends out a courtesy letter to renew your license plates two months prior to the renewal date. The form that the Government sends out along with valid insurance card will have to be provided. If you have lost this form then the valid insurance alone with the correct plate number will also get you renewed.

3. I live out of province but work in Alberta. Do I have to exchange my plates for an Alberta one?
- No. If your residence is not in Alberta you do not have to exchange provided you have valid insurance and non-commercial vehicle registration in your home jurisdiction for up to 183 calendar days you will have to register in Alberta.
4. How can I find out if a vehicle was stolen?
- The Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) website allows the public to check the ¡®stolen' status of a vehicle using either a vehicle identification number (VIN) or a license plate. The vehicle records in this database are updated every day and the property files are updated every Tuesday morning. It is important to note that even if you get a positive response to your search, it does not necessarily mean the item is stolen. 1. What do I need on order to write a knowledge test?
- To write the knowledge test for the first time you will have to provide us with two pieces of ID, and proof of residency. Minors will have to come in with a parent/legal guardian and obtain a parent consent form. To write the test there is a fee of $17.60
2. What do I need to exchange my license to Alberta?
- Once you make Alberta your permanent residence you have 90 days to exchange to an Alberta driver's license.
- If you are coming from out of Province you will need to surrender your home jurisdiction license, provide a secondary piece of id and proof of Alberta residence. Proof of Canadian status may also be required if you are not a resident of Canada.
- If you hold a out of country license from: USA, South Korea, United Kingdom of Great Britain including England, Scotland and Wales, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany.
You will need to surrender your out of country license, a translation of license if needed, a secondary piece of ID, proof of Alberta residency, and proof of Canadian status.
Korean licenses will also have to provide an English Certificate of Driver's License from Korea

3. How do I prove my Alberta residency/Canadian status?
- Alberta residency can be provided by submitting. (This is not an all inclusive list)
• Utility, telephone, gas or cable TV bill in client's name
• Current bank and/or credit card statements
• Mortgage documents or residential lease containing a client's physical address
• Income tax return
• Written confirmation of employment (including contact name and telephone number)
• Written confirmation from an educational institution in Alberta indicating dependents are attending school.
• Alberta Social benefits documents
• Land Title documents
Note: A registry agent must not issue a driver's license or Identification card when they are unable to confirm that the client is a resident of Alberta . - Alberta Registry Manual

• Valid Canadian passport.
